tips for using macMac or Macintosh is a line of computers which has found a huge fan-following worldwide. But just because the operating system of Mac is different from other computers, one may take some time to get accustomed to it. There are some tips that you can follow while using Mac. Irrespective or whether you are a pro or a novice in using Mac, these tips will definitely help in improving your overall computing experience.

Tips for using Mac

Change scroll settings: If you are a new Mac user, then you will find the scrolling system a bit difficult to get adjusted to. But you needn’t worry here as you can change the scrolling system to your preference by UN-checking the “natural scroll directions” option that comes under the Track pad System Preference Pane.

Rename files: This is one operation that many new Mac users get confused with. You can hit Return to make the file or folder name editable, type in the new name and then hit Return again to save your changes. You can also right click, select Get Info and then change the name of the file in the Info panel that pops up on the screen.

Show hidden files: The operating system of Mac computers has an inbuilt system by which it automatically hides certain files in a folder. As a result, the entire folder contents will not be visible to the user. If you wish to view the entire folder contents, then you can simply execute the command, “defaults write com.apple.finder Apple Show All files TRUE.”

Deal with crashed apps: Even though quite a rare event, Mac apps do crash at times. If an app has crashed, then click on the Force Quit command that can be found on the Apple menu. Now, a little window which displays the list of running apps, including the crashed one, will appear on your screen. Highlight the crashed app icon and click on the Force Quit button to stop the app. You can then restart the app, any time you want to.

Open iTunes in multiple windows: If you feel that you are unable to view your large music database in a single iTunes window, then do not worry as there is an option for you to open multiple windows of iTunes at the same time. This can be done by pressing Command and double clicking on the link that you want to open in another window. The new window will not have a source list on the left, like the main window, but you can open many such windows at a single time.

Minimize windows: Minimizing windows on Mac computers is very easy, as you have to just use the keyboard shortcut COMMAND+M. You can only minimize individual windows at a time and the minimized window will appear as a thumbnail on your screen.

Get a screenshot: Windows users generally depend on the Print Screen button to get a screenshot of their choice. However, Mac lacks such a button to obtain a screenshot. The alternative to this option in Mac is to press COMMAND+SHIFT+3, all at the same time. You can also make use of the Grab application, which can be found in your Utilities folder, in order to obtain a screenshot.

The above tips will definitely ease your troubles in using Mac. But while you use it, you need to ensure that your computer works fine by testing it at regular intervals.
